ABSTRACT (ENGLISH) DIRECT-SEQUENTIAL CODE DIVISION MULTIPLE ACCESS (DS-CDMA)/ CALL ADMISSION CONTROL/ REINFORCEMENT LEARNING/ ACTOR-CRITIC REINFORCEMENT LEARNING (ACSMDP)/ SEMI-MARKOV DECISION PROCESS (SMDP) The underlying aim of this research is to find the best possible call admission control policy for multiclass voice services in wireless direct-sequential code division multiple access (DS-CDMA) systems that maximize the long-term reward of the system while satisfying multiple quality-of-service (QoS) constraints. The call admission control problem is formulated as a semi-Markov decision process. Two important constraints inherent in CDMA systems are considered which are signal-to-interference ratio (SIR) constraints and blocking probability constraints. To circumvent the computational burden of conventional dynamic programming (DP) methods, we employ an actor-critic reinforcement learning method to solve the call admission control problem. Furthermore, we incorporate a penalty function into the reward signal in order to account for the blocking probability constraints. The SIR constraints are accounted for by embedding them into the system state space.

Integrated voice/data call admission control for wireless DS-CDMA systems
This paper addresses the call admission control problem for multiservice wireless code division multiple access (CDMA) cellular systems when the physical layer channel and receiver structure at the base station are taken into account. The call admission problem is formulated as a semi-Markov decision process with constraints on the blocking probabilities and signal-to-interference ratio (SIR). ...
متن کاملCall Admission Control Using a Constraint on Total Composite Received Power in DS-CDMA Systems with Multi-Class Traffic
We propose a call admission control (CAC) scheme for the reverse link of direct sequence-code division multiple access (DS-CDMA) systems with multi-class traffic, in which the admissibility of the set of requested channels is decided by checking the outage probability of the total composite power at a cell-site receiver. The reverse link capacities under various traffic conditions are evaluated...
متن کاملPerformance of a Two-Level Call Admission Control Scheme for DS-CDMA Wireless Networks
We propose a two-level call admission control (CAC) scheme for direct sequence code division multiple access (DS-CDMA) wireless networks supporting multimedia traffic and evaluate its performance. The first-level admission control assigns higher priority to real-time calls (also referred to as class 0 calls) in gaining access to the system resources. The second level admits nonreal-time calls (...
متن کاملCapacity analysis of uplink and downlink in multimedia DS-CDMA Systems based on constraint models
Capacity analysis in wireless communication systems is essential for system design, call admission control and radio resource allocation. Since CDMA is a kind of powerconstrained or interference-limited system, its system capacity is not so “hard” as in bandwidth-limited systems, such as TDMAbased systems. In this paper, we analyze the uplink and downlink capacity of multimedia DS-CDMA systems ...
متن کاملCall Admission Policies Based on Calculated Power Control Setpoints in SIR-Based Power-Controlled DS-CDMA Cellular Networks
In this paper, we develop call admission control algorithms for SIR-based power-controlled DS-CDMA cellular networks. We consider networks that handle both voice and data services. When a new call (or a handoff call) arrives at a base station requesting for admission, our algorithms will calculate the desired power control setpoints for the new call and all existing calls. We will provide neces...
